I use them up the line when barbel fishing, to stop any weed that may hit my line from sliding down to the lead and my bait.
They can be used instead of a stop knot when slider float fishing or for attaching a link ledger by sliding one over, both your main line and the link ledger line at the same time, much neater that a loop and a split shot.
Also they can be used simply to protect your hook points if you leave your rods rigged up at any point, i know a lot of carp anglers do and like to keep their hooks razor sharp.
